Muri Beach Resort, located on Rarotonga Island, recently installed a state-of-the-art solar system that allows the resort to be 100 percent self-sufficient for its power supply. The energy costs were too high and in order to save costs, and to receive a reliable power supply, the resort decided to go off the grid with a PV hybrid system.
Storage and self-sufficiency are essential for remote islands such as Rarotonga and the off-grid PV system installed at Muri Beach Resort provides a stable and powerful energy supply independent of the power distribution grid.
The resort plans to increase in size and has the ultimate goal to be a zero emission resort. A great advantage of an SMA off-grid PV system is that it can be freely expanded and so it allows for the design and integration of the system into additional buildings.
SMA has a strong presence in the Pacific. Every island in the region utilises SMA technologies with their most celebrated venture being in Tokelau, the world’s first 100 percent solar powered country.
