SMA America advances U.S. localization strategy with Westrafo manufacturing in Ohio ROCKLIN, Calif., October 6 — SMA America is strengthening its commitment to the U.S. market by expanding domestic value creation through the local manufacturing of medium-voltage transformers in Ohio. Working with long-standing partner Westrafo, which has supported SMA projects across Europe for many years, SMA is bringing a critical component of its large-scale energy solutions closer to its customers and project sites in the United States. The initiative reflects SMA's strategy to build a more resilient and localized supply chain at a time when energy developers are seeking greater certainty around procurement, project execution and long-term serviceability. With Westrafo now producing transformers in Dayton, Ohio, SMA customers benefit from increased domestic manufacturing, reduced exposure to global supply chain disruptions and closer technical collaboration throughout the project lifecycle. "The U.S. market is a key part of SMA's long-term growth strategy," said Jeppe Johansen, managing director, large scale service and operations, SMA America. "Producing transformers in Ohio through our trusted partner Westrafo strengthens our ability to serve customers with solutions that are increasingly rooted in the U.S. market. By expanding local value creation, we are reinforcing our commitment to supporting American energy projects with reliable technology, strong partnerships and long-term investment." As the U.S. energy market navigates evolving trade policies and procurement challenges, project developers are placing a growing emphasis on supply chain transparency and domestic manufacturing capabilities. Westrafo's Ohio facility enables SMA to source a critical component closer to project sites, helping reduce complexity, improve responsiveness and provide customers with greater confidence in project execution. "This collaboration highlights our growing footprint in the U.S. energy market and proves what’s possible when custom engineering meets uncompromised quality," says Alberto Cracco, chief executive officer of Westrafo. "As the renewable sector scales, Westrafo remains dedicated to delivering agile, high-reliability transformer solutions tailored to the unique goals of every partner." The Ohio manufacturing initiative represents another milestone in SMA America's broader localization strategy. By combining SMA's global inverter and system expertise with manufacturing and service capabilities located in the United States, the company is creating a stronger, more resilient ecosystem that helps customers navigate market uncertainty while maintaining confidence in the availability, performance and long-term support of SMA solutions.
