SMA America Expands Sunny Boy Lineup with 8,000 Watt Model

New Solar Inverter Ideally Suited for Residential and Commercial Projects

ROCKLIN, Calif., Nov. 10, 2009—The number-one selling solar inverter line in the world—the SMA Sunny Boy—now features an 8,000 watt model designed and configured specifically for the North American market. SMA America LLC, the U.S.-based subsidiary of SMA Solar Technology AG has announced that the new Sunny Boy 8000US is available for immediate order.

The SMA Sunny Boy 8000US increases the U.S. Sunny Boy lineup to a total of seven 60 hertz transformer inverter configurations, ranging from 3,000 to 8,000 watts, and is ideally suited for large residential or commercial systems.

The new product’s versatility is enhanced by its integration into the Sunny Tower, where six units can be grouped together to complete a stand-alone 48 kilowatt system or scaled together for a much larger project.

“The new Sunny Boy 8000US greatly strengthens the overall Sunny Boy lineup,” said Jurgen Krehnke, president of SMA America. “Installers and system designers can benefit from its ability to be used in both residential and commercial applications.”

The Sunny Boy 8000US model is certified to the UL 1741/IEEE1547 standard and features a 96.5 percent peak efficiency.

The Sunny Boy line of inverters has proven to be exceptionally reliable; their longevity is enhanced via SMA’s patented OptiCool active temperature-management system and rugged cast-aluminum outdoor-rated enclosure. The new model is backed by a standard 10-year factory warranty, with the ability to extend to 15 or 20 years.

“As with all SMA products, installers can also rely on our experience and world-class technology to ensure simple integration,” added Krehnke.
