SMA CEO Guenther Cramer Elected as President of German Solar Industry Association

Niestetal, November 19, 2009 – Guenther Cramer, Chief Executive Officer of SMA Solar Technology AG, was elected as the new President of the Bundesverband Solarwirtschaft e.V. (BSW-Solar) at the association’s annual meeting yesterday.

BSW-Solar is the industry association of the German solar sector. It is located at Berlin and represents around 800 members. The association acts as an informant and intermediary between business and the political and public sectors and represents the common commercial interests of businesses within the solar energy industry.

“Photovoltaics are on their way to becoming a pillar of our power supply. The coming years will be crucial for the sustainable success and the competitive position of photovoltaics,” explains Cramer. “The Renewable Energy Resources Act has significantly contributed to the creation of this growth industry with a high number of jobs and domestic added value. We will be happy to enter a constructive dialogue on the review of the feed-in tariffs for solar energy with the new federal government. Only a strong domestic market enables the photovoltaics sector to enhance its technological leadership and reach competitiveness with other energy sources.”

The election of a new president of BSW-Solar became necessary because of the death of the previous president of the association, Georg Salvamoser. There are no additional changes to the Executive Board of BSW-Solar, which is formed by Helmut Jaeger, President of Solvis GmbH, Werner B. Koldehoff, Management Consultant, Rudolf Sonnemann, CEO of Stiebel Eltron GmbH, Claudio Fischer-Zernin-Schmitt of Ufh GmbH, Frank Asbeck, CEO of SolarWorld, Klaus-Bernhard Hofmann, President CPR of SCHOTT AG, and Matthias Willenbacher, Board Member of juwi Holding AG.

In addition to his new office as President of BSW-Solar, Guenther Cramer is also a member of the Board of Directors of the European Photovoltaic Industry Association (EPIA) and the Kompetenznetzwerk Dezentrale Energietechnologien e.V. (deENet).
