California, 16.6 MW
Redcrest Repowering Project
The 16.6 MW Redcrest repowering project in Edison, California, modernized an aging site through the installation of 10 SMA Sunny Central inverters. The upgrade extended the project’s operational lifetime, introduced advanced technology and restored long-term system reliability.
A leading U.S. hyperscale solar developer selected Sunny Central inverters after the site’s original equipment manufacturer exited the market, leaving the project with unsupported equipment, limited-service options and increased operational risk. SMA provided a reliable path forward with a modern solution that combined addvanced grid-support capabilities and flexible output voltage to meet evolving system requirements while ensuring long-term serviceability.
In addition, the Sunny Central inverters enabled the reuse of existing transformers, simplifying the repowering process, reducing installation complexity and minimizing project downtime.
